Troubleshooting qPCR: What are my amplification curves telling me?

Quantitative PCR (qPCR) is the method of choice for accurate estimation of gene expression. Part of its appeal for researchers comes from having a protocol that is easy to execute. However, when your reactions don't yield ideal amplification, troubleshooting the "why" can be challenging.
